Sew ,Sew,Sew My Buttons On…

Published by bizilady at 3:34 pm under business, craft news, crafts Edit This

“Sew, sew, sew my buttons on, sew, sew, sew my buttons off.”  Hmm.   We used to say this little saying as kids but now I don’t think it makes any sense.

I have been crafting most of my life in one form or another and I’ve seen trends come and go.

It would appear that since the economic downturn, people are returning to basics.  Not surprising ,though.  We all want more value for the buck and crafts are no exception.

I see more hand- made clothing,  accessories  and necessities being sold on some craft sites.

Etsy (TM),  for instance, seems to be selling more practical and custom items in clothing and handbags. If you can sew and have some artistic flare, then making low- cost custom items will keep you in business.

They have a category for requests, titled Alchemy.

Customers may write a request and registered users can “bid” on the item to see if they win the job. The customer  lists a price they are willing to pay ,along with the description of what they want made.

Another category that I’ve noticed  increasing in popularity is supplies.

There are more and more “suppliers” listing items on Etsy(TM), Ebay(TM), and a few other crafts sites.  If you want some inexpensive supplies to make your  own clothing and accessories, then these suppliers can help.

I’ve never had a talent in this area.  I can hardly find my needle and thread when needed.

I do,  however,  keep a supply of safety pins on hand ,for any clothing “malfunction”.

This will lead to my Etsy shop. http://Newlife.etsy.com
